Susie Cooper/Wedgwood stylish 30pc tea/coffee set Persia pattern vintage 1960s
FOR WHAT OTHERS ARE LOOKING FOR. Antique and vintage items make nicer than new gifts. Although Susie Cooper was as famous as Clarice Cliff at the height of Art Deco, she was always able to keep pace with changing tastes and working in partnership with the world renowned Wedgwood company, offered a range of modern, clean, simple designs that were in vogue in the 1950s and 60s. This extensive set in the elegant'Persia' pattern, features a pleasing contemporary decoration in subtle, restrained colours. It will look right in any modern home as well as serving as a wonderful stylish retro example of the post-war revival of the UK ceramics industry. The set comprises a tea pot, coffee pot, 6 x cups and saucers, 6 x side plates, 6 x large plates, an eared sandwich/cake serving plate, milk jug, cream jug and lidded sugar bowl. We see no signs of age and use and we suspect that before we acquired the set some years ago it had spent most of its time in a display cabinet.
Please note that it features two different back stamps constant with the 1960s period (see images). It came to us from a private source and we assume the variance may have been there when originally bought or due to the owner adding to the set over several years. This is one of several desirable Susie Cooper items we are currently listing including a similar tea and coffee set in the much-collected'Glen Mist' pattern.
