Fantastic Rare 19 Piece Vintage (1960s) West German Gerzit Stoneware Coffee Set. A superb set and in perfect condition as shown in 12 photographs attached. Simon Peter Gerz is a famous German potter and world renowned, in particular, for his beer steins. He was born on 13th September 1830.
He founded his company in 1857, possibly on an existing family pottery business that dated back as far as 1810. His company finally received its licence to produce in 1862. Gerz died on 12th September 1893 and was succeeded by his son-in-law Alphons Wilhelm Lötschert b. 17th April 1863 - d.
The company became a G. On the 5th August 1897. The original company continued until 1997. There is a new company, of the same name, but owned by Domex, currently in Hillscheid, Rhineland Palatinate.Several eminent designers were associated with the company including Peter Behrens, Anton Kilian, "Karl" Beuler, Rudy Dekker, Fritz Hellmuth Ehmcke, Bruno Mauder, Carl Moos, Albin Müller, Wilhelm Ratelbeck & Paul Wynand.
