Susie Cooper Hyde Park Coffee Pot, 6 Coffee cans & saucers, 1959 Vintage

  

Susie Cooper was a highly regarded pottery designer/maker who designed this "Hyde Park" Coffee set range (C912) featuring autumn leaves in autumnal shades of rust/redish brown leaves alternating with charcoal grey leaves finished with a beautiful gold gilt edged finish. It is one of her most iconic well know designs from 1959 when Susie Cooper moved to producing high quality fine bone China.

It's both beautiful to display and practical for daily use, Collectors will love it, as will admirers of the beautiful elegant set which is both retro yet elegant for everyday modern life. This set comprises a large elegantly shaped Coffee Pot, a lidded sugar pot, a milk jug and 6 coffee can cups with beautiful gilted saucers (totalling 21 items in all). The condition is more or less perfect - there is no sign of use at all - the coffee pot, sugar bowl both with lids and all pieces look as good as new.

There is no crazing on any items. Each piece has the Susie Cooper painted makers mark from 1959. Susie Cooper Bone China England C912 HYDE PARK' signature on the base in brown ink.

I also have a large selection of crystal glassware listed too. Susie Cooper was a painter & designer who was well known for her design of shapes as well as patterns. Research online shows that she set up her own business in 1929 and moved to Crown Works, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, in 1931, working closely with Wood & Sons. In 1940 she was awarded the "Royal Designer for Industry" award by the Royal Society of Arts. In 1961 she set up a limited company "Susie Cooper Ltd" which later became part of the Wedgewood Group in 1966. She retired in 1972 and received an OBE in 1979.
